Mensa Kid's Trek - Chemistry Night

For more than a decade, Mensa Kids Trek and Oakwood University Chemistry Lab have been doubling, doubling, toiling, and troubling on the Monday before Halloween in presenting the Annual Chemistry Night. If you have never attended, this is your year to be there! The youngest participant ever was nine months old, and the oldest was nearly ninety years old.

The event consists of two hours of hands-on chemistry experiments in a real chemistry laboratory with lab assistants on hand to assist you.

This year's event, as always, is free. All children must be accompanied and supervised by adult partners. Please bring your own 9-oz plastic cups (the kind used for punch) and join us on Monday, October 26, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Oakwood University Chemistry Lab. If you have questions or would like to share your favorite safe chemistry experiments with the group, email Martha Williams, marthafeld@earthlink.net.

Trick Or Treat for UNICEF

Every year 5th grade SPACE students can particpate in the Trick or Treat for UNICEF drive. Participation is option and students are NOT to go door to door. They can simply choose to donate some change for the cause of helping other children around the world. Please check out the Trick or Treat for UNICEF webpage to learn more! You can also find UNICEF Games by clicking on the blue games tab at the top of the page!

The Mysteries of Harris Burdick

One of my favorite Haunted Center Activities is having you write stories inspired by the 12 pictures found in The Mysteries of Harris Burdick book! I found a web page dedicated to publishing stories students have written and I wanted to share it with you! You can read the stories that other students have written or submit your own to be posted! I can't wait to read your stories!

The Author and Illustrator of The Mystery of Harris Burdick is Chris Van Allsburg. He has a fun, interactive website for students to explore. Check it out!

I also want to challenge you to look up your favorite author's webpage and share it with the class through the blog.
